I knew Barrie since I was a kid, growing up in the Cwm. Although only a couple of years older than me he was regarded as one of the “big boys”. Never play games with the big boys, especially when the ball being thrown changes from soft rubber one to a cricket ball!

As was the norm, after the end of our school years we both departed Fishguard for career interests.
It was great to meet up at many occasions during my visits to Fishguard and after Barrie retired from the RAF and returned to the Cwm.

Barrie spent may hours supporting my ageing father, whether that be doing odd jobs around the house, tending to the gardens, or simply just chatting. As my father’s mobility reduced it was great to see Barrie take over the gardens, and was affectionately known as “the apprentice”. It always amused me when I noticed that Barrie had driven some 200 yards from his house to my father’s gardens, but when I saw the amount of produce produced I could understand the need for transport.

It was very comforting to know that although if lived some 250 miles from the village Barrie, Sue and the Owen family were always there to support my father, both day and night. He and the family made my him one of the richest men in the world in terms of true friendship.

Barrie you were a great friend and are sorely missed. R.I.P.
