IT was a bit blustery down on the shore but that didn’t put the hundreds of visitors off as they headed to the Hazelbeach Regatta at the weekend.
There may have only been four dinghys brave enough to take on the windy conditions but they battled hard on the water with Simon Turnbull coming in first.
The craft building competition was as popular as ever and despite difficulties in getting their vessels from the shore into the water they took to the sea with a lot of swimming and wading.
In the 7-11 category the Ninjas came in first. The 12-15 years winners were I Don’t Know. Sterling Effort came second and Milford Sea Scouts third.
In the open race Ravens came first with the Neyland and Milford Terrors second.
Mill House team retained their title as 16 plus winners but it was a close contest with the Winjas certainly gave them a run for their money.
There was crabbing on the pontoon all afternoon run by Neyland Community School as well as face painting with Neyland Youth Club, bouncy castles, craft workshops and graffiti workshops.
“Many thanks to all our willing volunteers who helped erect marquees and bunting, marshal, serve refreshments and much more. The day just wouldn't go ahead without you. We provided a fantastic day of family entertainment both on and off the water,” said organiser Hestor Walker.
