LOCAL MP Stephen Crabb has met with developers to discuss plans for a five-screen cinema complex in Haverfordwest town centre.
Fairacre’s plan which could help regenerate the town centre remains in the pipeline with an application still awaiting a decision.
Mr Crabb, who has been in discussion with cinema developers for more than two years about opportunities in Haverfordwest, said he was “excited and encouraged” about the emerging Fairacre plans.
The proposal also includes restaurants to be built on the site of the current Wilko store at Old Bridge.
“At a time when town centres all across the country are changing as a result of internet and out-of-town shopping, we desperately need new ideas for regeneration and investment. I hope that the Council will look at them closely as part of a new vision for the town.
“After years of planning decisions that have sucked business out of the town centre, a multiplex cinema development could prove a vital catalyst for the renewal of Haverfordwest town centre,” added Mr Crabb.
Jeannie Pritchard of Fairacre has said previously: “There is currently a lack of leisure provision within Haverfordwest and this new development will create a vibrant evening attraction for residents and those visiting this historical centre.”
Fairacre said that work could start on its project at the end of next year, with a potential opening date of late 2018.
Development company Conygar withdrew its similar cinema and shopping complex plan at a site on the outskirts of the town last month.
