Police, coastguards, drones and rescue dogs have been employed in a search for a missing person in a Pembrokeshire town.

HM Coastguard Fishguard and Moylegrove were tasked to assist Dyfed-Powys Police in searching for a missing person in the Newport area on Wednesday, October 2.

Coastguard teams assembled in Newport with police officers and a dog handler to carry out a search in areas of the town including the beach, parrog and both sides of the estuary and up stream.

Moylgrove’s station officer, who is a coastguard qualified drone operator, was able to launch a drone to assist with searching the large area using thermal cameras but nothing was found.

After several hours of searching police received information that the missing person had made contact with a family member. Police and the coastguard teams were then stood down.

The teams thanked Newport’s Golden Lion Hotel for the use of the premises as a base.
