Dear editor, I am writing on behalf of Pembrokeshire Rail Travellers Association in support of Milford Haven Travel Agency, which is losing money by people booking tickets online instead of using the office at the station.
From personal experience, I can confirm that you can save money by booking at MHTA instead of online.
I go to visit family in St Albans three or four times a year. On each of the last three occasions, I have had cheaper tickets at MHTA than were available online: viz £20 instead of £25 or £30 return ‘Apex’ fare.
Admittedly, even £30 is very cheap for a 600 miles return journey, compared with £120 by car (or £300 if I was able to claim mileage expenses). But why go elsewhere when you can save money locally?
On another rail topic, until December anyone aged over 55 can travel anywhere in Wales or as far as Manchester and Cheltenham for just £18 return (£16 for railcard holders). Details are available at stations, MHTA and other local travel agents, or from me.
Finally, the PRTA has just published its 20-page Pembrokeshire Rail Fares and Timetable Guide, which is available from me in return for two second-class stamps.
David Gwyn Watts Timetable & Fares Editor, PRTA Priory Road Milford Haven.
