Dear editor: My petition 0354/2006 which was accepted in 2007 by the petitions committee of the European Parliament, Brussels, spoke in detail on some of the huge risks arising from LNG ships and the storing of LNG in storage tanks situated close to people. The UK Government in its response to the points made has resulted in repeated delayed answers to the Petition year by year.
Placing LNG storage tanks either side of Milford Haven, is to be totally oblivious to the huge consequences to the 50,000 people living either side of the Cleddau Estuary should one thing go wrong.
Ignition sources, not excluded during the build of the harbour, are available all over the area which in turn increases the risk of any leak of gas howsoever caused.
Any fire, whether from a pipeline, LNG storage tank, or of course LNG ship entering the harbour and we all have had placed upon us residents huge risks, which should never have been allowed in the first place. Evacuation plans are just a joke. If you do not have transport how are you going to be evacuated? How many minutes will this take? Siting LNG storage tanks so close to people is extremely foolhardy and should never have been allowed. Why were they not placed on a huge platform 10 miles off land? Rodney Maile Milford Haven
