Dear editor, WE ARE opposed to the proposal to close Milford Haven’s delivery office, and move staff and the service to Haverfordwest.
Although Royal Mail has given an assurance that the 28 staff will not be subject to compulsory redundancies, we are concerned at the impact of such a move on employees and their eventual job prospects.
Closure of the delivery office will not only affect staff, but have a knock on detrimental effect on the entire town, which has the largest population west of Llanelli.
Loss of the service will affect residents whatever ‘alternative arrangements will be put in place for customers’ as promised by Royal Mail.
Closure will damage local business, and result in yet another flagship empty property in the centre of the town, which is already struggling.
We urge Royal Mail to think again about this proposal, which will be a severe blow to Milford Haven.
Mike and Vivien Stoddart County Councillors for Hakin and Hubberston Wards, Milford Haven
