ARE THE people of Pembrokeshire sleepwalking into an imminent disaster which could afflict the services at Withybush Hospital?
The signs seem to be that Withybush Hospital, as we know it, could slowly die with the main medical services being centralised elsewhere – probably in some centre of excellence well removed from Withybush. Wasn’t it suggested some years ago but at that time it failed.
The people of Aberystwyth, – 500 of them – and Llanelli – in their hundreds have already voiced their concerns. When will the people of Pembrokeshire wake up to what could happen?
If they wait for the next consultancy document in May 2012 it could be too late!
It is to be hoped the people of my town, Milford Haven, all potential patients will call for an open meeting to which the Health Board and other interested bodies could be invited. Should the boards refuse an invitation it could fuel suspicions it has something to hide.
Health events merely raise minor issues and seek to persuade patients to make a choice that would not really suit them.
And now we hear the permanent Renal Unit in Withybush has been delayed even though five years ago the only problem was the lack of a Welsh Assembly grant.
What is going on?
