With washing machines being used so regularly, it is essential that these remain as clean as possible and in good working condition.

Ensuring your washing machine is maintained well will prolong its lifespan and save you money in the long run.

However, with three parts in need of constant scrubbing, it can be difficult to know where to start and what you should be using to clean them.

Despite that, one user has revealed a simple life hack to clean your machine for only £1.50.

Using only two common household items, here is how you can clean and remove mould from your washer.

How to get rid of mould from your washing machines for only £1.50

Writing for The Express, Sophie Harris revealed how mould spreads to three important parts of your washing machine as well as how to combat this scourge.

Washing machine drawer

Because the washing machine drawer comes into contact with liquids and detergents so often, the residue can cause dirt and mould to build up.

To get rid of this, Sophie soaked the drawer in hot water before adding a few drops of Asda's Fresh Berry washing-up liquid.

She then let it sit for five minutes before returning to the drawer with an old toothbrush to scrub the entire area thoroughly, causing the mould to disappear.

Filter

The filter is a vital part of the machine and catches debris and other items coming from clothes but these can clog very easily.

To deal with this, it is recommended to drain excess water from the filter before running it under a hot tap.

Users are supposed to do this every four months for the washing machine to work at its best.

Drum

Making sure the drum is clean is very important as this is where your dirty clothes go to get a new lease on life.

If harmful bacteria are allowed to form, this could cause you problems in your everyday life.

One way this can be cleaned is by adding a cup of baking soda into the drum as well as a very small amount of white vinegar into the drawer.

The next step is to switch the washing machine onto a hot wash of 60C or as hot as your machine will allow.

Once the cycle is finished, take some disinfectant spray and wipe the door and the seal to ensure they are spotless before leaving the machine open to dry out.
