Johnston missed a glorious chance to progress into the last 16 of the West Wales Cup by conceding two late goals against Neath Premier League side Lonlas FC.
The tie was switched from Glebelands to Hillcroft due to heavy frost, but it didn’t seem to affect the Tigers as they were ahead within nine minutes. Centre back Ben Phillips got on the end of a Steve Allen corner and powerfully headed home.
The home side dominated the rest of the game but failed to add a second goal. Strikers Adam Hawkins and Mark Jones both missed guilt edged chances, while referee Gareth Elliot turned away several strong penalty appeals from the Tigers.
Still, it appeared the home side had done enough before they gifted the away side two goals in the last eight minutes. Poor marking allowed Lonlas striker Ashley Powell to fire home from eight yards out, before a terrible error from Tiger’s keeper Jim Payne.
The normally reliable Payne spilt a routine cross in injury time, and James Semmens gratefully tapped into an empty net to complete an unlikely turn around.
Johnston: Jim Payne, Richard Davies, Ben Phillips, Sion Price, Scott Murray, Luke Hayward, Damien Ellis, Steve Allen, Steve Mills, Mark Jones, Adam Hawkins. Subs: Lee Walters, Ryan Doyle, Liam James.
